Which to Buy?
Posted April 2023
Which to buy? The real question is what do you plan to do with any gun you buy? The answer seems obvious, but just to protect yourself and your family could be done with any household shovel or sports baseball bat. Just rushing to the bedroom and grabbing the gun; then pointing and clicking could get you into a lot of trouble. The right to own and carry a firearm is guaranteed by the U.S Constitution but there is a greater responsibility to be trained.
Now suppose at training you find operating a “semi-auto” pistol is too difficult.
Step one, is to know what a semi-auto handgun is.
Step two is to know how it operates.
Step three is to ascertain if you have the physical strength required to safely operate it.
Can you rack the slide?
Can you drop the magazine with just one hand?
Can you fix any malfunction that might occur?
(None of these things occur with a revolver)
Step four is evaluating you ammunition caliber need?
Step five, need an optic (yes or no)?
Step six, are you willing to put in the time to master all these things.
Step seven, (a tip) consider taking a class where you can fire both types and decide for yourself whether you go “revolver or semi-auto”
Okay, so now you have decided on a revolver. (That other is too complicated)
Step one, know the difference between a revolver and a semi-auto.
Step two, are you daily going to carry this on your person?
Step three, decide on going with a hammer or hammerless
Step four, plan ahead, you may have only 5 or 6 shots, then what?
Step five, what caliber are you planning to shoot?
Step six, are you willing to put in the time to master all these things.
Finally, you now know the direction you want BUT now it gets complicated. There are a lot of manufacturers to choose from, many price ranges, many sizes and features to evaluate.
