Concord Bridge Patriots

The keeping and bearing of arms by the people was no more popular with King George and his Tories in colonial times than it is with Big Government and its supporters today.

On April 19, 1775, British forces gathered secretly at midnight in Boston and marched toward Lexington and Concord. The British mission was primarily an attempt to disarm the colonial Americans.

When Paul Revere sounded the alarm on his famous “midnight ride, the response of the American colonials — the “Minute Men” — was to take up their arms, which had not yet been denied them, and drive the Redcoats off. At Lexington, militia Capt. John Parker’s timeless words to his men echo through the ages: “Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it start here!” Predictably, the large British force of nearly eight hundred prevailed over Parker’s tiny, impossibly brave company of colonial militia, but with the news from Lexington and Paul Revere’s timely warning, the Americans gathered from every shop and home, from every farm and field. At Concord Bridge they mustered and stood firm, and turned the British march into a rout.
